What Does a Physiotherapy Assessment Look Like at Embodied Physiotherapy and Pilates

A personalized approach to understanding your body

What can you expect from your session?

At Embodied, a physio assessment is more than just testing your physical body, it’s a deep dive into your story, your symptoms, and how your body is responding to the world today.

We start by learning about your medical history, the timeline of your injury or symptoms, and your own insights into what’s been going on. Then, with your consent, we do a hands-on assessment.

  • For Orthopedic conditions this might include looking at global movement patterns, joint-specific mobility, tissue tension, strength, nerve function, and even how your brain is processing touch or sensation. We’ll never ask you to do something that doesn’t feel physically or emotionally safe.
  • For clients with neurological conditions, we may test reflexes or assess how well your brain and body are communicating—sometimes including cranial nerve testing.
  • For those dealing with sport-specific or complex movement issues, we may explore higher-level functional tasks to better understand what’s contributing to your symptoms.

A physio assessment should give you a clear understanding of what’s going on in your body—and that’s exactly what we aim to offer.

What to expect

  • A full review of your history, symptoms, and function
  • Movement and strength testing tailored to your need
  • Nervous system screening if relevant (reflexes, sensation, etc.)
  • Gentle, hands-on techniques with consent
  • The option to spread your assessment over two sessions if needed
  • A diagnosis or clinical impression that reflects your unique situation
  • A collaborative discussion about next steps

Getting started

Our physiotherapy assessments are available to anyone—no referral required.

Whether you’re navigating a new injury, persistent pain, or a long-standing condition, we’ll take the time to get it right from the start. If you’ve been wondering what is a physio assessment, this is what it looks like when it’s done with care, clarity, and collaboration.

Why work with us, Embodied Physiotherapy and Pilates?

At Embodied, Physiotherapy is never one-size-fits-all. Physiotherapy can support a huge range of issues—but the way we use it always depends on the individual.

Many people don’t feel fully heard in their healthcare experiences, which can make it hard to ask for help. At Embodied, we aim to change that. We listen first, assess thoughtfully, and create treatment plans that make sense for your life. Our approach is grounded in pain science, an understanding of how the body moves, and a deep respect for the person in front of us. Whether you’re recovering from surgery, managing a chronic condition, or navigating symptoms that haven’t made sense elsewhere—you’ll be met with care, skill, and no judgment.
